A New Year, A New You!

You made it through the holiday gauntlet and you start to notice that the pants are feeling a little snug. You realize that wearing elastic pants won’t go over so well with your work ensemble. The scale reads a number you’re not too flattered about. So you embark on a common New Year’s resolution to “lose weight.”

While most people start the journey, not many reach their intended destination.

Losing weight can be a challenging and frustrating process, especially if you feel like you are doing everything right but not seeing the results you want. You are not alone in your struggles – many people have a hard time losing weight and maintaining a healthy weight.

One of the biggest struggles with weight loss is staying motivated. It can be easy to get discouraged when you are working hard and not seeing the scale move, or when you have a setback and regain some of the weight you have lost. It is important to remember that weight loss is a journey, and it is normal to have ups and downs. It is important to find ways to stay motivated and stay focused on your goals, whether it is through setting small, achievable goals, finding a support system, or finding activities that you enjoy and that keep you active.

Another common struggle is finding the time and energy to make healthy choices. It can be hard to find the time to cook healthy meals or fit in exercise when you have a busy schedule, and it can be tempting to turn to unhealthy convenience foods when you are short on time. It is important to find ways to prioritize your health and make time for self-care, even if it means making sacrifices in other areas of your life.

Another obstacle to weight loss can be emotional eating. It can be easy to turn to food for comfort when you are feeling stressed, anxious, or depressed. It is important to find healthy ways to cope with emotions, such as talking to a friend or therapist, practicing relaxation techniques, or finding a hobby that brings you joy.

Finally, weight loss can be difficult if you have underlying medical conditions or are taking certain medications that make it harder to lose weight. It is important to work with a healthcare professional to address any underlying issues and find a weight loss plan that is safe and effective for you.

Losing weight is not easy, but it is possible. By finding ways to stay motivated, making healthy choices, coping with emotions in a healthy way, and addressing any underlying medical issues, you can work towards achieving your weight loss goals.
